In spite of the fact that Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life in Pirogovo is almost an hour journey from Kiev, and it will take you some time not only to see the museum collection but also to get there – you should visit it. Pirogovo is especially nice in frost-free season, when it is a fine day. Visitors are awaited not by a formal hall with the plates "do not to touch", but an open-air museum. Having roamed about old Ukrainian coaching inns, having visited small houses-museums and ancient wooden churches, having admired a collection of windmills, you can come to one of the restaurants, treating visitors by traditional Ukrainian home cuisine, and have a good time before return home.
A lot of various museums are located at Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra territory, which is very comfortable for sightseeing. After a tour of Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra, travelers have the opportunity to visit Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art, to see the unique exhibits of Ukrainian Museum of Historical Treasures, to marvel at skill and talent of artist Nikolay Syadrstiy in Museum of Miniature and also look in at some other museums.
There is one more wonderful museum in the city center – Natural History Museum of National Academy of Science of Ukraine. Paleontological Museum exhibits rouse lively interest of both adults and young visitors: full-length mammoth skeleton, reproduced from fossil remains, can’t be seen in every world museum.
Connoisseurs of art and sculpture probably will be interested in Museum of Art named after Varvara and Bogdan Khanenko. The most known painting, among all masterpieces of world art exposed there, is Velasquez canvas "Portrait of infant Margarita".
Collection of Kiev Museum of National Culture of Ivan Gonchar will be curious to all, who is interested in Ukrainian art history. Icon painting, textile, pictorial, ceramic works of art, made by Ukrainian masters, are collected in the museum, rich collection of pisanka (painted Easter eggs) and other exhibits are very interesting too.
Museum of Water located in Kiev centre, at one of the old water towers, familiarizes tourists with the history of Kiev waterwork creation as well as tells a lot of interesting about water properties and its place in the planet life. The museum format also makes it possible for children and adults to have some fun.
