State Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art is located in the territory of Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra. Museum exposition numbers more than 70 000 objects made by Ukrainian folk skilled craftsmen, since 17 century and till Soviet period. Today it is one of the largest museums of folk art in the territory of Former Soviet Union. Great services for Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art in Kiev were performed by outstanding Ukrainian and Russian cultural and art workers who invested money in creation of Kiev museum of art, industry and science. Among them were: A.Prahov, D.Shcherbatsky, M.Murashenko and M.Bilyashchitsky.
All Museum exposition consists of 2 parts. In the first there is everything made before 20 century, and in the second – work of Soviet period and the present. Each part includes several sections: woodcarving, ceramics, textiles, embroidery, clothes, glassware, china and paintings. By-turn, exhibits in sections are put in order according to chronological and territorially-ethnographic principle. State Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art gives an opportunity to see rich collection of carpets, rugs, factory and handmade textile, examples of printed fabrics of 17-19 centuries, tablecloths, towels, national clothes. One can find a great pleasure in sightseeing of an exposition of folk embroidery – it is very extensive and various. In each corner of Ukraine there were typical devices of embroidery, it can be noticed, while admiring products of skilled workers of Podol, Bukovina, Gutsulshchina.
Collection of carved bone and wood products is worth seeing. It consists of several thousand of objects used at various times in territory of Ukraine as decor and in everyday life. Besides all listed, 1 500 m2 of museum territory contain expositions of musical instruments of 18-19 centuries, carved parts of harness, ware, furniture. Here it is possible to see such curiosity as decorative tile of 15-16 centuries. Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art also possesses one of the most considerable in Ukraine collection of glassware, involving examples made by glass blowers of 17 - 18 centuries. Now the collection of Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art continues being replenished with ancient finds and examples of modern Ukrainian folk art.
